YOUTH PROGRAMS

FIRST AID

Youth Programs

Stay Safe Program

Offers basic first aid and safety skills for youth 9-13 years old. Participants learn about being safe when they are without the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or trusted adult, both at home and in their communities.

Babysitting Course

Offers basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 11-15 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families.

First Aid Training

STANDARD FIRST AID RECERT POLICY:
The Ontario Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) specifies that Standard First Aid award holders may recertify just once on a SFA recertification course. To renew a SFA certification subsequently, you are required to repeat the full course. Thereafter, you may renew by alternating recertifications and original courses. If your SFA certification is older than three years, you are required to take the full course (not a recert) again.

Basic First Aid

Basic First Aid is great for youth looking to take the initial steps in providing first aid treatment. Skills include: how to contact emergency medical services, primary assessment including hazards and ABCs of an unconscious, breathing victim, rescue breathing, how to treat choking and minor injuries.

Emergency First Aid

Emergency First Aid is for people who want a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, CPR, choking and what to do for external bleeding, heart attack, stroke wounds and burns. Includes CPR-B certification. Recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.

Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid certification is valid for 36 months from the certification date. Annual re-certification is recommended.
